Convoy System

[1] Northbound:

Starts at 06:00 hrs at KM 160 consisting of two groups of vessels:

» GROUP (A):

  • Navy Ship.
  • LPG/LNG loaded or non Gasfree (NGF).
  • Tankers loaded with petroleum products/crude oil/chemical.
  • Tankers in ballast but NGF or over SCGT 80,000.
  • Tankers with draft over 11.58 mtr = 38 Feet.
  • Containerships over SC.GT 40.000 (OR) draft over 11.58 mtr=38 Ft.
  • Lash Carrier over 35.000 SCGT.
  • Heavy Bulk carriers & other vsls with draft over 11.58 mtr = 38 Ft.
  • or Length over 950 Feet B.P or any vessels SCGT 55,000 and beam over 40 mtr.

 

The arrival time/deadline 0100 hrs /lt when passing reporting point latitude 29 42.8 N and not when at anchorage which can be extended as following:

  • Up to 03:00 hrslt against 03% extra canal tolls from normal transit dues with maximum SDR 7,000.
  • Up to 04:00 hrslt against 05% extra canal tolls with maximum SDR 10,500.
  • And after 04:00 hrslt against 10% extra canal tolls with maximum SDR 20,000 which is subject to traffic permitting.

» GROUP (B):

  • Tankers vessels less than SCGT 80,000 and Gas free.
  • Tankers in ballast and draft less than 11.58 mtr = 38 Feet.
  • All other vessels not mentioned in group A.

 

The limit time to group (B) 03:00 hrslt when passing latitude 29 48.33 N which can be extended as following :

  • Up to 0400 hrs:lt against 03% extra canal tolls from normal transit dues with maximum SDR 7,000.
  • Up to 0500 hrs:lt against 05% extra canal tolls with maximum SDR 10,500.
  • And after 0500 hrs:lt against 10% extra canal tolls with maximum SDR 20,000 which is subject to traffic permitting.

[2] Southbound:

» First Convoy:

The limit time to join 1st S/B convoy is 1900 hrslt which can be extended as following:

  • Up to 2100 hrs against 3% extra canal tolls from normal transit dues with maximum SDR 7,000.
  • From 2100 up to 2200 hrs against 5% extra canal tolls with maximum SDR 10,500.
  • Vessel arriving after 2200 hrs may join the first southbound convoy, subject to navigation permissible against 10% extra canal dues with maximum SDR 20,000.

 

• Canal entrance for 1st convoy starts at 0100 hrs& time of completion at 1500 same day (approx).

» Second Convoy:

The limit time to join 2nd S/B convoy is 0300 hrslt which can be extended as following:

  • Up to 0400 hrs against 3% extra canal tolls from normal transit dues with maximum of SDR 7,000.
  • From 0400 up to 0500 hrs against 5% extra canal tolls with maximum SDR 10,500.
  • Vessel arriving after 0500 hrs may join second southbound convoy, subject to navigation permissible against 10% extra canal dues with maximum SDR 20,000.

 

» N.B: second convoy draft 12.80 M and for vessel up to 13.70 mtr could join 2nd convoy against 5% add. dues with maximum 7000 SDR.

• Canal entrance for 2nd convoy starts at 0700 hrs& time of completion at 2300 same day.

» N.B: Container ships above 90,000 SCGT up to 95,000 SCGT within the permissible dimensions, request joining the (N2) are allowed, against an additional charge of 5% of transit dues with a maximum of SDR 10,500. Container ships above up to 100,000 SCGT can also join N2 against an additional charge of 8% of transit dues with a maximum of SDR 17,000

• Limit time is the time passing the line south of Lat 31 28.7 north.


[3] Arrival Info:

• 48 hrs pre arrival notes to be sent by Master to Suez Canal Authority.

Also the following is necessary information in pre-arrival notes:

  • Vessel name, call sign and nationality.
  • Date of last transit if any.
  • Owner / charter name.
  • Int.GRT/NRT-SCNT/SCGT/SDWT- MAX.DFT/LOA/BEAM.
  • ETA Suez Canal.
  • Cargo on board including IMO cargo.
  • Suez Canal projector on board and total power in watt otherwise, please inform Suez Canal in case you intend to hire one fm ashore upon your arrival to Suez canal.

[4] Transit Docs:

The following documents must be prepared and signed by master including number of copies are required as described between brackets:

  • Certificate of Registry (4)
  • Statistical Declaration (1)
  • Information concerning a ship extracted from it’s official document (1)
  • Declaration of state of navigability (1)
  • Information concerning vessel transiting Suez Canal (3)
  • Declaration concerning use of double bottom tanks (3)
  • Stowage plan for container ships only (2)
  • Crew List (6)
  • Ports of call list (2)
  • Health declaration (1)
  • Vaccination list (1)
  • Cargo manifest – If Loaded (3) – except container vessels

[5] Official attendance:

Following official authorities and persons will board the ship on arrival and during Canal passage:

  • Agent representative.
  • Suez Canal authority surveyor.
  • Suez Canal Electration.
  • Two mooring boats with 6 crew.

Suez Canal Pilot from outer roads to the entrance, another pilot from entrance to Ismailia and last pilot from Ismailia till other end of channel.
